Anchor chain winch is usually installed on the main deck of the ship’s fore and aft for anchoring process which involves dropping and lifting the anchor, thus having the ship to stop at mid sea or at the port. We have a wide range of anchor winches and windlasses to suit different boat models. The anchor windlass can be divided into electric windlass and hydraulic windlass according to different power.
Electric anchor windlass
This anchor winch is powered by an electric motor, which drives the main shaft to rotate after achieving multiple reductions through the gears in the reduction gearbox. Due to the high speed reduction ratio requirement, the speed reduction mechanism is relatively large. The electric anchor chain winch is mainly suitable for small and medium-sized ships, with anchor chain diameters of 16mm-93mm.

Electric anchor chain winch parameters:
- Dia of anchor chain/rope: ø12mm – ø128mm
- No. of gypsy: single
- Load capacity: 1ton- 100ton
- Speed: 9-11 m/min
- Certificate: BV, ABS, DNV, RMRS, etc

Double gypsy wheel anchor windlass parameters:
- Dia of anchor chain/rope: ø12mm – ø128mm
- No. of gypsy: double
- Load capacity: 1ton- 100ton
- Speed: 9-11 m/min
- Certificate: BV, ABS, DNV, RMRS, etc
Hydraulic anchor windlass
The hydraulic windlass is driven by a motor with a hydraulic pump, and the generated oil pressure drives the oil motor, and then runs the windlass through the reducer. This product has a compact structure, small power and transmission parts, smooth operation, and good shifting performance, ideal for modern large and medium-sized ships and anchor chain diameter of 16mm-120mm.

Hydraulic anchor windlass parameters:
- Dia of anchor chain/rope: ø12mm – ø128mm
- Speed: 9-11 m/min
- Load capacity: 1ton- 100ton
- Ceritificate: BV, ABS, DNV, RMRS, etc
Choose The Right Anchor Chain Winch For Your Boat
Each anchor winch windlass can be specifically designed to suit a particular vessel size. The factors that determine the type of winch you select include anchor size, windage, power source, etc. Or you can provide some basic information about the winch you need so that we can assist you to select the right anchor winch for ships.
Information we need to know include:
- Rated load or anchor weight
- The length and diameter of the anchor chain
- Are there any special requirements for speed?Generally the speed is 10m/min.
- Do you need a small warping head?
- Electric or hydraulic power?
- 3-phase voltage?
- Structural form you prefer
- Winch working environment or conditions
- Does it need to be certified by the classification society?
- If it is a double chain wheel, what is the center distance of the chain wheel?
Based on the information you provide, Aicrane professionals will help you choose a winch machine at reasonable cost to suit your vessel.
Technical Requirements of Anchor Windlass
- The winch should be driven by an independent prime mover or electric motor. If the hydraulic pipeline of the hydraulic windlass is connected with other deck mechanical pipelines, it shall ensure that the normal operation of the windlass is not affected. The working load is determined according to the diameter of the anchor chain.
- When the average speed is not less than 9m/min, and when pulling an anchor from a water depth of 82.5m to a depth of 27.5m, the windlass should have the ability to work continuously for 30min.
- The windlass should be able to work continuously for 2 minutes under the action of overload tension. The overload tension should not be less than 1.5 times the working load.
- The sprocket of the windlass should be equipped with reliable brakes. After the brake is tightened, it should be able to withstand 45% of the static tensile force of the breaking load of the anchor chain, or the maximum static load on the anchor chain.
- The chain stoppershould be able to withstand the test load equivalent to the anchor chain, and its stress should not be greater than 90% of its material yield point.
- The installation of the windlass should ensure that the anchor chain barrel, chain brake, and sprocketare in line when the anchor chain is drawn out.
